Uganda: Kayinja - a local IWRM story
Like several other fishing villages around Lake George (Uganda), Kayinja was not an example of good hygienic practices. Latrines were in bad shape, people washed their hands in the lake, the cows went to defecate in the same lake, the lake water was used for drinking, cooking... Since a couple of years, Join For Water and local partner JESE are active in Kayinja. Nowadays the village is a model site for integrated water management. Fishermen from neighboring villages are praising Kayinja and are happy to moor their boats at the landing site. A success story, told by the local community, members of the CLTS committee (Community Led Total Sanitation), employees of Join For Water and JESE and beautifully filmed by Bridge Films.
